Caleb Stegall

Caleb Stegall is an attorney, writer, conservationist, speaker, and part-time farmer. Born in Topeka, Stegall is a life-long resident of Douglas and Jefferson Counties in northeast Kansas. A 1999 graduate of the University of Kansas School of Law, Stegall served on the Kansas Law Review, was awarded the Order of the Coif, and upon graduation clerked for the Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. He practiced in the civil litigation and government relations practice groups at Kansas's largest law firm, Foulston Siefkin, before becoming the founder and principal of The Stegall Law Firm in 2005.

Stegall currently oversees all the practice areas of The Stegall Law Firm, from individual needs to small business matters to government relations. Stegall also serves as General Counsel to the Kansas Chapter of Americans for Prosperity advocating a variety of grass-roots public policy initiatives including tax reform, judicial reform, and strengthening private property rights.

In 2007, Stegall was named the Director of Kansas Legislative Education and Research, Inc., a think-tank serving the conservative caucus in the Kansas Legislature and advocating limited government, individual liberty, and the prerogatives of traditional Kansas communities.

Stegall serves on the executive committee of Audubon of Kansas, the premiere conservationist organization in Kansas and a chief trustee for the conservation of the largest area of remaining tallgrass prairie in the world.

In 2003, Stegall created and founded, with others, an online journal of religion, politics, and culture called The New Pantagruel. The New Pantagruel quickly achieved national prominence, was profiled on the front page of the New York Times, and received widespread critical acclaim. In 2006, Stegall and The New Pantagruel were featured in Rod Dreher's book, Crunchy Cons, as leaders in the resurgence of traditionalist conservatism. Though The New Pantagruel was discontinued at the end of 2006, Stegall's writing continues to appear in conservative papers, magazines, and journals including National Review Online, Christianity Today, Modern Age, The Intercollegiate Review, and The University Bookman.

Stegall has authored chapters in several books, including the chapter on "Community" in the highly anticipated volume American Conservatism: An Encyclopedia. He is currently at work on a book provisionally titled Kansas First! on the history of prairie populism and regionalism in American politics, due out from ISI Books in 2008. Stegall is an occasional commentator on Kansas Public Radio and speaks regularly at events large and small.

Stegall is an elder at Grace Evangelical Presbyterian Church and lives on a small farm with his wife and their five sons.
